How to Place Plants in Build a Base & Steal Plants (and What Controls Placement)
Place plants inside your base in Build a Base & Steal Plants and learn what controls placement: base space, expansions and picking up plants to free room.
Placing a plant in Build a Base & Steal Plants is one put-down action: once a plant or seed is in your inventory, walk to the spot inside your own base where you want it and put it down there. What controls placement is your base space — you can only fit so many plants before you either buy a base expansion or pick up an already-placed plant to free a spot.
How to place a plant
- Get the plant into your inventory. Most plants are bought from the shop with in-game money — a strawberry, a tomato, fruit trees. Seeds work the same way once you have them: a jurian seed, for example, arrives as an item you then plant like any other plant. For every acquisition route, see how to get plants.
- Choose a spot inside your own base. Placement happens within your base, not out in the open, so decide roughly where everything goes before you commit.
- Put the plant down on the chosen spot. That single action sets it in place, and it repeats for every new plant — buy another tree, stick it down, buy the next one, stick it down again.
- Wait out the grow timer. A placed plant stays exactly where you put it and grows on a visible countdown. Grow times vary by plant: a newly placed tree showed 25 minutes remaining, and a freshly placed strawberry simply means waiting until it grows.
That playthrough shows the whole placement rhythm — buying a plant, putting it down at a chosen spot, and waiting out the timer.
What controls where you can place
Base space is the limiter. Every plant you put down takes up room, and once the base is full, new placements have to wait until you make space. There are two ways to do that:
- Buy a base expansion. One session's expansion was priced at 50k, and after buying it there was clearly more room to work with.
- Pick up a placed plant. Removing a low-value plant frees its spot — in that same session the player was ready to pick up a blueberry worth absolutely nothing rather than pay for the expansion straight away.
Placements aren't permanent, either. A plant that's just been put down can be taken back out again, and as you progress you can start swapping older plants out for better ones — replacing filler placements once you finally find an apple tree, for example.
Place with thieves in mind
Where you put plants matters because other players can steal them. Keep everything inside your base and build walls around — and on top of — the arrangement; walls go up independently of the plants, so you can enclose any layout you've made. See how to build a base for the walls and defenses, or base layouts for arrangement ideas.
